A helpless cow lost her entire lower jaw in a tragic accident caused by a pig-catching explosive. The device had been cruelly wrapped in wheat dough to attract pigs, but by mistake, the cow ate it. The explosive detonated in her mouth, causing a devastating injury.
The moment we heard about her condition, our rescue team at Dog Home Foundation in Jodhpur sprang into action. Without wasting a moment, our ambulance was dispatched to Jaisalmer—over 300 km away. After a long and urgent journey, our team reached the site, secured the injured cow, and transported her safely back to our shelter.
Latest UpdatesUpon arrival, our veterinary team conducted an emergency assessment. The diagnosis was tragic—her lower mandible (jawbone) was completely shattered and her tongue severely damaged. She was unable to eat, drink, or even move her mouth. Given the critical nature of her injuries, our senior doctors took the brave decision to perform life-saving surgery immediately.
The surgery was complex and painful to witness. The entire lower jaw and tongue had to be removed. Now, this cow is under constant medical supervision. She can no longer eat on her own and is being hand-fed through a rice pipe. For the rest of her life, she will need human assistance to eat and survive.
While she is safe now, her journey ahead is long and filled with challenges. And unfortunately, this is not an isolated case.
At Dog Home Foundation, we rescue 10 to 15 animals every single day—most of them severely injured, paralyzed, or abandoned. Right now, there are hundreds of cows waiting for urgent surgeries, many of which are life-saving. But due to a shortage of funds, we are unable to provide timely medical help to all.
Our shelter is also running out of space. The rising number of rescues, combined with the high cost of surgeries and medicines, has pushed us to our limits.
We’re doing everything we can, but we can’t do it alone.
Your support can help us save more lives.
Every contribution, no matter how big or small, goes directly towards the treatment, food, and care of injured animals like this cow from Jaisalmer. With your help, we can perform the surgeries they so desperately need, provide shelter, and give them a second chance at life.
Please open your heart and donate.
Together, we can bring hope and healing to those who cannot speak for themselves.
The time will vary based on the condition of the animal and the number of animal emergencies at that time. Our helpline call attendants send the ambulances to the most critical animals first, such as animals who are unable to walk, have fractures, are bleeding, etc.
If it’s taking time for the ambulance to reach, please know that it’s because there are more critical rescues required first.
If you can bring the animal to Animal Aid yourself this is greatly appreciated and will ensure fast treatment.
